MISCELLANEOUS MODS

Extra Character Icons
This mod adds extra character icons from the beta, tools & assets pack, and concept art. The current icons are my selections, but you can easily repack the mod with different icons selected. There are two versions: The images in one version are compressed with DXT5 (which is standard for images in TL2). The images in the other are uncompressed. This makes them slightly sharper and cleaner, but at the cost of a bigger download and a higher load on your PC when running the mod. This mod is compatible with NullMod. The .7z archives include both NullMod and regular versions.

The following icon sets are included:
  • Regular icons.
    The regular icons are included and use their normal names. The DXT5 version is unchanged from the TL2 release. The uncompressed version uses the .png sources included in the TL2 release.
  • Tools & Asset Pack Icons.
    These icons are taken from the .png sources in the tools & assets pack. They appear to be from an intermediate stage between the beta and release. The tools & assets pack icons are named with the suffix "_ta" added to the end of the normal icon names.
  • Late Beta Icons.
    These icons come from the TL2 beta. A patch partway through the beta changed to these icons. Because only the DXT5 files are available, the DXT5 images are used in the uncompressed version of the mod. (Please let me know if you have a set of .png sources.) The late beta icons are named with the suffix "_latebeta" added to the end of the normal icon names.
  • Early Beta Icons.
    These icons come from the TL2 beta. A patch partway through the beta changed away from these icons. Starting with the 10/18/2014 version of the mod, thanks to a brilliant find by Kva3imoda, these icons are taken from .psd sources (that appear to be .png quality) buried in an obscure spot in the tools & assets pack. The early beta icons are named with the suffix "_earlybeta" added to the end of the normal icon names.
  • Concept Art Icons.
    These icons are taken from various TL2 concept art I've found on the web and beaten into icon form using GIMP. The sources were jpeg images, but, for the most part, the resolution was high enough that jpeg compression artifacts were scaled out of perceptibility in the icon-making process. The concept art icons are named with the suffixes "_concetpa", "_concetpb", "_concetpc", and "_concetpd" added to the end of the normal icon names. (Consult the chart.)
Here is a handy chart of the icons available in this mod:

Changes in the 10/18/2014 version of the mod:
  • Updated the early beta icon set using newly discovered high-quality source files. (Thanks Kva3imoda!)
  • Added one new concept art icon for male engineer (ConceptD).
  • Changed some of the default icons used by the mod. (You can easily change to whatever icons you want.)
I'm less than happy with the selection of concept art for some of the classes. In particular, I really wish there was a dashing male outlander, a male embermage with hair, and a better female berserker. Please let me know if you've got concept art (or even decent fan art) that's not included in this icon collection. (FYI: At a minimum, the resolution needs to be big enough that the square area used for the icon is 120x120 pixels; a higher resolution is strongly preferred.)

Armor Fix
This is a small excerpt from my as-yet unfinished Eternity mod. It causes armor to provide %DR on a logarithmic scale such that every 2000 armor will reduce incoming damage by half (subject to the 75% DR cap). Natural %DR for berserkers and engineers is reduced to 15%.

As one might imagine, this mod is intended to address some of the shortcomings in TL2's defensive mechanics. In short, armor is virtually worthless, despite being the intuitive way to improve one's defense; while percent damage reduction (%DR) is the dominant defensive mechanic, despite being not-at-all prominent in the UI and only available from a few items and skills. By making armor automatically give %DR, this mod makes armor relevant again (at least up to 4000 armor) and makes players less dependent on %DR items and skills (and less dependent on global %DR to the complete exclusion of typed %DR sources). Standing alone, this mod does make the game easier by freeing up a number of sockets that would otherwise be dedicated to reaching 75% global %DR. When finished, Eternity will include a number of other balance fixes that counterbalance this.

Draw Distance (Done Right)
Another excerpt from the as-yet unfinished Eternity mod. To the best of my knowledge, this is the first and only mod that attempts to do a draw distance mod "the right way" by dealing with the side effects caused by the increased draw distance.
Features:

  • Increases monster draw distance to cover the full screen;
  • Slightly increases camera distance for indoor levels;
  • Removes fade-in for monsters emerging from behind obstructions/UI elements (Reverted, buggy);
  • Proportionately increases distance at which monsters respond to damage to themselves and their allies;
  • Specific tweaks to make certain monsters/bosses more aggressive;
  • Specific tweaks to make certain monsters less prone to aggro to the player while off-screen;
  • Specific tweaks to make friendly minions less prone to aggro to off-screen monsters.
  • Fixes brief flicker that appears before some monsters "pop up" to attack you.
For a detailed account of what this mod does, see this forum thread. You can download some small helper programs used to automate making this mod here: DrawDistanceHelper.7z

FreeSpec
Another excerpt from the as-yet unfinished Eternity mod. FreeSpec adds full skill and stat respec to the respec NPCs.

Skill refunds are greatly simplified. You can refund all skillpoints with a single press of a button.

Stat refunds are a little more complicated. You can refund stat points from a selected stat in increments of 1, 10, or 100. The starter stats for each class are enforced. So, for example, you cannot respec an Embermage below 15 Focus. For convenience's sake, your base stats, stat bonuses from items, and total stats are displayed in the interface.

Note: Be careful about item requirements when respeccing stats. If you remove stat points so that you no longer meet an equipped item's requirements, nothing will happen immediately. However, the next time you equip or unequip any other item, or press 'W' to change between weapon sets, the item that you no longer meet the requirements for will "fall off." If you have free inventory space, it will "fall off" into your inventory; otherwise it will "fall off" to the ground!

The interface when you interact with a respec NPC now looks like this:

FreeSpec only works with the four basic classes (Embermage, Berserker, Engineer, Outlander). However, you can find instructions for adding your modded class to FreeSpec in this forum thread.
